The head of the 1+1 media distribution division Ivan Primakov told Media Detector that in May 2017 the media group became aware of the online resource tvoetv.in.ua (working on the technology of OTT), which broadcasts TV channels: "1+1 "," 2+2 ", TET," PlusPlus "," Bigugui ", UNIAN TV," Quarter TV ", Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon HD, NickJr, MTV, MTV Dance, MTV Hit, MTV Rocks, MTV Live HD, VH1 European, VH1 Classic without the consent of the media groups.
"Users were required to pay the owners of the site for viewing programs. We sent a request to stop broadcasting or signing a contract for legal display of programs, but the situation has not changed, "- he said. According to Mr. Primakov, the media group suffered damage in the amount of 1 million 148 thousand UAH and "1+1 media" filed a statement of a criminal offense committed to the Department of Cyberpolicies of the National Police of Ukraine.
The head of the Kiev Department of the Department of Cyberpolicians of the National Police of Ukraine Sergei Kropiva told the Media Detector that a criminal prosecution was opened in the Svyatoshinsky District Police Department of Kyiv. 176 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of copyright and related rights). According to him, the company "Volia" and "Media Group Ukraine" also addressed the Cyberpolice with relevant statements regarding the work of tvoetv.in.ua
"At the present time, we have established two persons who carry out their activities in the Kyiv and Lviv region. Our specialists jointly with the investigation team conducted authorized searches at the places of residence of people and removed the equipment used to commit illegal acts. That equipment is on an examination. As a result of the receipt of the examination, which we expect to receive this month, the employees of the investigative body and the prosecutor's offices will consider the issue of disclosing suspicion to those individuals. At present, the investigation is continuing, "he said.
According to Mr. Kropiva, tvoetv.in.ua is just one of the piracy sites. The activities of these resources are currently being continued from abroad. "The main task of these resources is the distribution of content that they did not have rights to use," said a police officer.
Oleksandr Paputsy, a lawyer at the Smartsolutions Law Group, who protects the interests of "1+1 media", told the Media Detector that the media group had tried to agree with representatives of the OTT-service to stop piracy. The representative of the resource also said that tvoetv.in.ua "has some deals with the rights holders," but could not tell whom exactly the agreements were signed.
